Instructions to Authors

These requirements serve two goals: they state (1) the content requirements, which characterize informational aspects of the paper; and, (2) the general format requirements, which provide an overall consistent look to Euscorpius publications. These requirements are minimal, however, and therefore, the authors have great latitude in composing a paper that is consistent with their style of presentation as well as a paper that satisfies their esthetic preferences.

Content Requirements

All authors should present their studies in a straightforward manner organized in the minimal number of sections as follows: Summary --- a concise statement of the content and conclusions of the paper; Introduction --- preliminary information that establishes a framework for the remainder of the study; ‘body’ --- this section may be broken into several named sections specific to the study, e.g., sections dealing with assumptions, material, methods, research, analysis, etc. This section presents the study in full, all research and/or analyses conducted are described; Results/Discussions(optional) --- this section presents the conclusions of the study as well as plans for future study; Acknowledgments --- addresses those persons and/or institutions that provided support in this study; References --- this section specifies all relevant literature referenced and/or cited in the paper; and, ancillary content can be provided in one or more Appendices. See example below for the reference and quotation format.

Format Requirements

Euscorpius  will be responsible for generating the final formatted paper. We present here the basic format requirements that all papers will comply to when published: Euscorpius manuscripts must be written in English in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), and be ‘full-page’ (letter - 8.5 x 11"), with the body of the paper organized into a SINGLE layout (no columns). Times New Roman (TNR) font will be used in all publications (with the possible exception of labels, legends, etc. rendered in figures). All margins, top, bottom, left and right, will be one (1) inch. A cover, cover inside sheet, and headers specific to Euscorpius will be supplied by Euscorpius.

All Euscorpius publications must have, as a minimum, the following named sections in the order given: a Summary, Introduction, ‘body’ (which can be divided into appropriately named sections based on the contents), Acknowledgements and a list of References. If the research is ‘conclusion-oriented’ a section called Results or Discussion can be provided preceding the acknowledgements.

Paper Size Restrictions

Size limitations are not a concern for Euscorpius publications. However, we discourage wholesale replications of content from other sources (a simple reference will suffice). Otherwise, authors should cover all aspects of their research that they believe best presents the approach and results of their study without undo concern about size limitations.

Illustrations

General: Euscorpius encourages authors to illustrate their papers with well-rendered figures, charts, and tables, a well illustrated paper is always well received. All figures and tables in Euscorpius papers must be numbered consecutively (each) with Arabic numbers. If a figure plate has multiple figures, these figures must be identified on the plate with large legible figure numbers.

Illustration construction: Euscorpius accepts illustrations in monochrome (i.e., black/white), grayscale, and color. These illustrations can be full page landscape or portrait, column-width, or two-third page width where the caption is located to the right of the figure. Since the Euscorpius publication medium is a read-only PDF file, it is important that not only the illustration be professionally rendered, but its resolution be high enough such that the figure, when enlarged to 200%, is sharp with high contrast. All submitted papers, when fully formatted, are converted to PDF format using the following compression values (i.e., DPI rating): Color = 300/450, Grayscale = 225/338, monochrome = 900/1350. Monochrome, which is the most sensitive to resolution due to its discrete lines and contrast, must be adjusted accordingly: for a full page portrait illustration, a resolution of 5850 x 7200 is recommended (i.e., the image fits into a 6.5 x 8 inch area, allowing one inch for the caption); similarly, a full-column illustration should be 2858 pixels in width (i.e., 3.2 inch width area).

Euscorpius Paper, An Example

For the convenience of authors we provide a small example that provides a set of pre-existing format conventions that can be used as a guide. It also illustrates the overall format of a typical paper.
