Andrew Gooding was raised in Ithaca, NY, received his bachelors degree at Bates College and did graduate work at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He has been at Marshall University since the Fall of 1999.

Andrew assists in preparing grant proposals for submission, completing technical reports and preparing outreach materials in cooperation with faculty and staff at the Rahall Transportation Institute as well as at Marshall University and Marshall's Community and Technical College.

Andrew is currently the Speech Mentor for the Yeager Class of 2010 Seminar series.  Prior to that, he taught combined courses in English composition, public speaking, business and technical writing and speaking, group communication, technology's impact on our society, the rhetoric and ethics of science for the Department of Integrated Science and Technology.  He also co-taught an honors seminar and a non major’s integrated science class. He is certified to offer writing-intensive instruction at Marshall by the Writing Across the Curriculum program.

His graduate work focused on rhetorical theory and criticism and his research focuses on the American memory of the First World War.

Andrew lives on the south side of Huntington with his wife Grace and two children, Evan and Christopher. He plays table tennis and helps coach the Marshall University Table Tennis Club which competes against other colleges and enjoys coaching his sons’ soccer teams.
