Received my B.S. in Biology/Secondary Education from Murray State University 1960.

Earned a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Louisville, 1968, and a Ph.D. in Herpetology also from U. of L. in 1972. I have taught at Durrett High School (6 years), at Indiana University Southeast, Ohio University Southern Campus, Spalding University, University of Louisville, and Ashland Community College all for short periods as part-time faculty.

I have taught at Marshall from 1972 to the present. I have also served in a variety of administrative positions while here. I served as Assoc. Dean of the College of Science for 15 years and as Interim Dean for two years. I recently stepped down as Chairperson of the Integrated Science and Technology Department.

I am currently serving in the phased retirement program offered by Marshall University.
I was recently awarded the University’s Distinguished Service Award and have been granted Professor Emeritus status.

My teaching over the years consisted primarily of Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. I also have taught Ecology, Vertebrate Natural History, Herpetology and freshman Biology for majors and non-majors.

My research interests are currently with terrestrial and freshwater mollusks. I have published 45 professional papers and scientific reports, mostly related to Mollusks.

I have assisted 10 graduate students to complete their requirements for the Master of Science degree. All of these students worked in the area of Natural Science/Wildlife Resource Management.

My current assignment is primarily as an advisor and mentor to grad. Students. I also teach a class in Malacology each spring.

I have served as an environmental consultant for the following:

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
WV Department of Natural resources
Dresden Energy Corp.
Columbia Gas Transmission
West Virginia American Water Corporation.
Martin Marietta Materials
WV Dept. of Highways

Through these consulting contracts I give real-world experiences to the graduate and undergraduate students with whom I work.
