PURPOSE
Euscorpius is the first and only research publication completely devoted to scorpions (Arachnida: Scorpiones).
Since its inception in 2001, as of December 2009, Euscorpius published 89 issues authored by 71 zoologists from 21 countries (USA, Argentina, China, Colombia, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Venezuela.)
In 2002-2009, 65 new species from 26 countries (Afghanistan, Australia, Chile, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, India, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, USA, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Yemen) and seven new genera of scorpions have been described in Euscorpius.
Euscorpius takes advantage of the rapidly evolving medium of quick online publication, at the same time maintaining high research standards for the burgeoning field of scorpion science (scorpiology).
Euscorpius is an expedient and viable medium for the publication of serious papers in scorpiology, including (but not limited to): systematics, evolution, ecology, biogeography, behavior, and general biology of scorpions. Review papers, descriptions of new taxa, faunistic surveys, lists of museum collections, and book reviews are welcome.
Euscorpius is not a scorpion 'chat room', so miscellaneous notes, ideas, etc. are not appropriate submissions. Only fully formatted, illustrated, and documented papers will be considered.
Derivatio Nominis
The name Euscorpius Thorell, 1876 refers to the most common genus of scorpions in the Mediterranean region and southern Europe (family Euscorpiidae).
Euscorpius General Obligations
Euscorpius will be responsible for the CD-ROM distribution of accepted contributions to the appropriate institutions and libraries to assure compliance with the guidelines of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN, 4th Edition, 1999). Publications will be available on this website for downloading by any interested party. Notifications of each new publication will be distributed to a large set of active zoologists, museums and libraries via email. IF YOU WISH TO BE ON THIS LIST PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS.
AUTHORS Responsibility
Authors are responsible for the generation of a 'publication-ready' paper following the flexible guidelines outlined below. All submissions must be in digital format only. Authors are solely responsible for any hardcopy distribution of their papers, which will not have a status of a separate publication but should be regarded as a printout of an electronically published document.
REVIEWING and ACCEPTANCE
Euscorpius is a peer-reviewed publication. All reviewing will be done via email to speed up the publication process. Names of the reviewers will remain confidential if a reviewer so desires. The authors are encouraged to submit a list of potential reviewers with their email addresses, or indicate non-desired reviewers to avoid a conflict of interests, a standard practice in grant applications. A growing number of experts in various areas of scorpiology makes it possible to secure professional and fast reviews of submitted papers. We strongly believe that the authors are solely responsible for accuracy and content since their reputation will be based, in part, as in all publications, on the totality of quality of the papers they author. Euscorpius editors are not responsible for evaluating authors' opinions, theories or hypotheses; however, Euscorpius reserves the right to decline manuscripts which do not comply with professional standards.
Euscorpius welcomes research submissions from everyone.
